Car Alarms: non-responding Clifford Arrow 2 on a 95 BMW, going in circles, bmw dealer

Question
I recently bought a low-mileage, beautifully maintained BMW 325i (I'm the second owner). The only thing not working on this vehicle is the installed Clifford Arrow 2 alarm system. It will not respond at all in any way (no LED, no chirp from the valet switch, won't arm, etc). No blown or missing fuses in the fuse block. My local Clifford (DEI) dealer tells me they don't want to work on it (they didn't install it, and I have no way of finding out who did) and that I should go see my local BMW dealer. My dealer, of course, tells me to contact Clifford for product support. I first thought I'd see if someone could diagnose the problem and maybe the system could be fixed. Now, I'm starting to think the best thing may be to completely uninstall it and "start over" (this arrow 2 is "old" technology anyway, right?) Why am I having this problem getting any information at all, and what would you do? Any suggestions? What are my choices? I'm at wits end here, going in circles. Thank you very much!

Answer
I tend to agree with the installers take on this.
It IS old technology for one and secondly,
to get the best security/convenience experience,
you need to complete understand what the system
is capable of, and what it is not.

The Arrow series was an overblown and over engineered
system that really required a thorough explaination
from the installer. My suggestion is probably
what you expected. Replace with one you can get
a warranty on, and that is up to date. That way
you know what to expect from the beginning,
and can provide the sort of maintainance you expect
this vehicle should have.

Go fo a system that provides 2 way communication (paging)
and also give you keyless entry and starter disable.
You can always add an optional microwave motion sensor
if you like, but you get the point. Replace the
old system. It just makes sense.

If it were me, I would go with the ASTRA 777
system as a replacement. www.PAGINGALARM.com

Best band for the buck, and does what's needed
without a fuss.

I hope I helped some.
