Car Stereos: 1997 Golf GTI, led screen, best bet

Hi Justin, I bought a 1997 Golf GTI , It came with a radio Cassette deck and has the anti theft as well. The problem is that the LED screen is over half way blacked out So I am unabe to reset the the code for the radio. I have looked for a replacement via auto Wreckers , I found one and they advised it was the same radio How ever when it got here its a premium radio with no anti theft. My question is can I install this radio in and will the vehicle run?

Hi Herb,

The short answer is no.

The car will run, but the stereo will be useless, as the premium unit expects other hardware to be in the car that isn't there, and you'll get no sound.

Your best bet in these situations is usually just to go aftermarket.  They're cheaper, and they sound better.
