Car Stereos: remote wire for amp install in 2009 gmc sierra 1500 crew cab, line output converters, gmc sierra

Question
Where can I hook up my remote wire for an amp/sub install so that the amp will turn on/off with ignition in 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab factory stereo without Bose?

Answer
Hi Jake,

The only wire I've ever found in these trucks that will turn on and off with the ignition is the pink wire at the brake switch.  In the new full-size GM trucks, the brakes lights only work when the key is on, so the power wire at the brake switch (at the brake pedal) is an ignition wire.  You can also find this same wire in the electrical box mounted on the firewall under the driver's side dash.

However, a better option is probably to use a signal-sensing trigger module that can be connected to the factory speaker wires, and will produce a 12v remote output whenever it senses an audio signal.  Some line output converters have this feature built-in, or you can buy the trigger unit separately; PAC Audio's TR-4 is an example.

Hope this helps!
