Car Stereos: sony xplod head unit, sony xplod, stock speakers

Question
I recently put in a car audio system in my 98 durango. everything works great until i hook my ipod up or put a cd in. When i do this only the bass lines of the songs come out and these are only in my subs. why do my Speakers not make any sound when i put in a cd or plug in my ipod?

Answer
Hi Kolby,

Your Durango uses a factory amplifier to run all the stock speakers.  This amplifier has a remote activation wire, just like your subwoofer amp; and this activation wire needs to be connected to the same blue/white remote output as your sub amp's remote wire.

The factory amp remote wire is in the black radio plug; if you're using a wire harness adapter, it's usually represented by a blue wire.  Right now you have this wire connected to the solid blue wire in the Sony deck's harness, but that's a power antenna wire--the result is that the factory amp is only turning on when you select "tuner" for the audio source.  The solution is to disconnect the wire in the adapter harness from the blue wire in the Sony plug, and re-connect it to the blue/white Sony wire instead.  (Your amplifier's remote wire should already be connected there; just hook them both up together).  When you're done, the blue wire in the Sony plug won't be connected to anything; the blue/white wire will be connected to both the sub amp's remote wire, and the blue wire in the adapter harness.

This should fix the problem.
