Car Stereos: Dual Voice Coils, dual voice coils, dual voice coil

Question
I currently have 2 12" JL Audio 12w3v2 subs.  Each sub is dual voice coil 2 ohms.  I have them wired to accept a mono block amp at 2 ohms per a diagram I have used.

Here is the link..

My question is how does the amp use the Dual Voice Coils?  Each sub is rated at 300w RMS... I am trying to find an amp to run these.  With these speakers are they 300W total, or 300W per voice coil?  I am looking at a few amps.   Rockford Fosgate Power T500.s and T1000.s and also JL Audio 500.1 and 1000.1.  Not sure which amp to go with to be honest.

Any ideas?

Thanks in Advance!!

Answer
Hi Jason,

There's a part of the model # that's missing from your message.

The 12w3v2-d2, -d4, and -d6.  I presume by your message you mean the -d2, but it could also be the -d4, which, when wired with each coil in parallel, yields 2ohm.

The possibilities of how you hook them up are endless.  With 2x2ohm coils per sub, you can create:

- 2x4 ohm circuits
- 1x2 ohm circuit
- 2x1 ohm circuits

What it comes down to, though, is finding an amp that will push ~600w (300w x 2 speakers) RMS in the configuration you like.  Get an amp that will cleanly handle the resistance you configure them for and remain stable, and ignore the 'max' numbers listed on subwoofers and amps; they're meaningless.
