Car Stereos: Speakers in my Tiburon, rear speakers, front doors

Question
Hi, I am trying to replace the rear speakers in my 2003 Tiburon. I would love some guidance in removing the old ones. How do I get the grill off? Do I have to remove the side panel or just take off the cover? Any info is appriciated!! Thanks T

Answer
Hi Tracie,

Sorry about the delay in answering this question.  I can tell you that you won't be able to remove the speaker grills alone; you'll need to remove the entire door panel to get to the front speakers, and the entire side panel to access the rear speakers.

For the front doors, start by prying off the tweeter cover in the top corner.  Look for hidden screws around the perimeter of the door panel, under screw covers.  There will be a screw inside the door release handle cup, and more screws under a removable panel on the door pull handle.  Once you've found and removed all the screws, you can pry the door panel away from the door and lift it off.

The rear side panel will require you to remove some seat belt bolts, as well as the lower rear seat cushion; this is held in with bolts at the rear and clips on the front.  You'll probably need to remove the sill panel along the bottom of the door opening, and other panels in the cargo area, before you can remove the side panel entirely.

Unfortunately, I don't have a free illustrated guide I can share with you, but there's a good chance you'll need one if you plan to do this yourself.  You can purchase removal instructions for all the speakers at this site:

That will give you another option, if you're not able to figure it out on your own.

Hope this helps!
