Car Stereos: Speaker Static, side speakers, static noise

Question
My passenger door speaker makes a static noise whether the radio is on or not. It usually happens when going over bumps (like railroad tracks) but sometimes it happens for no apparent reason. The only way to make it stop is to lightly hit the dashboard or shut the door hard. Sometimes in the morning, when I get in the car before the car is even on it is making this noise. I have brought it to my dealer multiple times and they cannot fix it..they replaced both of my passenger side speakers (back and front). I can't make the problem happen on cue, so I can never have the mechanic hear the problem to know what is going on. Please help! It is so annoying. Thanks

Answer
Julee,

Your right side speaker wire has a short somewhere.  That means, it is either wore through somewhere, or has come loose, or a connection has become bad.  I would guess that the connector going into the radio has come loose for the right side speaker wires.  They can easily test this by pulling the radio out of the dash and turning it on.  While turned on, wiggle the wires going into the connector.  If the speaker starts to pop or get staticy, then you know that is the problem.  It is definitely, the wire going from the radio to the speaker.  The most common problem is that connector, the second most common problem is a worn wire in the door jam.  Hope this helps, Scott
