Car Stereos: Amp Hook Up, rca cables, rca outputs


Question
i got a DUAL XD7500N cd player and when i hook the amp rca's
up to it it makes my subs go and out really hard for some
reason what am i doing wrong i got it plugged in to the right
rcas on the player i belive?

Hi Cody,

On that player, the RCA outputs are the gray ones that are built into the separate wire plug, not the yellow ones connected directly to the head unit chassis.  If you're using the gray outputs, and getting constant noise through the subwoofers, there may be a problem with the RCA signal ground.  Double check the ground wire on your head unit.  If that's good, you can try a different set of RCA cables; you might have a defective cable set.  If you're still getting noise, try wrapping wire around the outside shields of the RCA cables at the back of the head unit, and connecting the other end of the wire to the head unit's chassis.

If nothing else works, you might try using a line-output converter to connect the sub RCA's, instead of the head unit's RCA outputs.  Sometimes a line-out converter will fix a noise problem when nothing else will.
