Car Stereos: Subwoofer problem-ohm distributor?, alpine type r subwoofers, power akoustic

Question
Hi, i am writing because i am having trouble with my subwoofers power levels and door speakers.

I have a 1996 v6 Camaro and i purchased 2 alpine type-r subwoofers, 4 alpine type-r door speakers, a
3000 watt power akoustic amp and a kenwood flip out head unit.

The other day my friends and i put in all the door speakers and the subwoofers and we got sound to all the
door speakers and it sounds great but the subwoofers in the back barely work, the subs have power and
they work and so does the amp but the subs barely bump and it is like they are on the lowest setting.  We
went through all the settings on the headunit and couldnt do anything to fix the level of the subs, we
turned on the subwoofer settings and everything.  All the wires are connected and everything should work.
This happens all when the tuner is on, however when you put a cd in you get zero sound coming from the
door speakers but full power to the subwoofers.  It is either one or the other the speakers and the subs
never work together.

My Camaro had a bose system in it which means it had a bose factory amp in the back and i had heard
that could possibly cause problems like this.  A friend also suggested i get an "ohm distributor" which
should redirct all the ohms and have everything set up right.  If anyone would possibly write back and give
me any suggestions or reasons or advice it would be much apprecaited

Answer
Hi Eric,

The system changing like that based on what you're using as a source is what concerns me.

The first thing I would suggest is to make sure you wired the harness correctly at the deck -- make sure nothing weird happened there.

Next, I need to know how you installed it.  Did you just run the amplifier off of the pre-outs of the aftermarket deck?  And are you putting the speakers on the amp too?  If so, how'd you get the amp its sound, and did you run new fresh speaker wire to the speakers?

Your options are basically this:

1) Use the factory amp on the new type-r door speakers.  In which case, you need to buy a factory amplifier integration adapter for your new deck, or they aren't going to work right.

2) Use the new amp on the new speakers, in which case, you need to run new wire to the doors, or at least cut the wire where it comes from the factory amp, and run that to the new amp, making sure the old amp isn't used at all (youll want to find it and disconnect/remove its fuse too, to ensure nothing bad happens.)

3) Use no amp on the speakers, in which case, you need to bypass the factory amplifier by jumpering the wires going in and out of it (which can be a bit of a chore.)

I would suggest buying the factory integration adapter, wiring the speakers into the same wires they're already on in the doors, and then running the preouts off the new deck to the amplifier and putting the subs on that, which should make everything behave together as expected.
