Car Stereos: car stereos, 2007 chevy aveo, chevy aveo

Question
Dear Brain,

I am having a problem getting my 2007 chevy aveo hatchback to keep me preset stations and stuff like that after i turn it off.  the radio i have is  sony cdx-gt52w.  the main thing is finding the power wire that keeps the radio power to keep all that stuff from getting cleared.  i also having trouble figuring what in dash kit would work on for my aveo hatchback?

Answer
Hi Zach,

If you still have the factory radio plug attached, your best option would be an adapter harness.  The Aveo hatchback actually uses a Daewoo-type plug.  A Metra 70-8405 harness would work.

If the factory plug is no longer available, then you'll need to match the correct power wire colors.  According to my information, the constant power wire is orange in your vehicle, and should be matched with a yellow wire on the Sony deck.  The accessory power wire in the vehicle harness is yellow, and should connect to a red wire in the Sony deck.  If you can't get the CD player to turn on in this configuration, you'll want to check your vehicle's fuses (including any fuse box under the hood).  A digital multimeter is very helpful for verifying the wire functions.

With some head units, I've had good results just using the factory mounting bracket and pocket, and mounting the new deck in the factory location.  However, that sometimes leaves a gap at the sides of the new CD player.  The correct mounting kit for your Aveo is a Metra 99-7951.  Another option is a Scosche SI2221B.

Hope this helps!
