Auto Racing: 05 Passat 2.8L FWD, cold air intake, dodge daytona

Question
Hi, I am replacing my 2 catalytic converters with 2 high flow cats (magnaflow) I am wondering will this give me any power in the car. Also is there a big differnce in power between the K&N High Flow Air filter thats made for the car or the Cold Intake.

and Is there anything else thats minor i can do to improve power in my car such as spark plugs, oil filter etc. the car has 67K miles on it its Automatic.

Answer
Yes, the magnaflows will help overall performance, these engines were choked off in the exhaust set up.  I would recommend a 2 into one system, or a crossover pipe if you're dueling it out.  What this does is allow each exhaust pulse to in effect "pull" the next pulse along with it.
A cold air intake system would be a definite compliment these, more air in, more air out.  K&N filters offer the ability to re clean it verses throwing the filter out.  I haven't personally seen any appreciable increase in performance to be honest, however I had done some testing on the "Tornado" intake device, which creates a spiral effect to incoming air, allowing it to enter the engine in a uniform
flow, and was pleasantly surprised to find it did increase performance, and passed my "bang for the buck" test, meaning the cost was worth the increase.  I performed my testing on a 2001 Jeep cherokee and a 90 Dodge daytona. You might want to check them out.  Best prices were found on ebay.
Synthetic oils help free up horsepower, of course the new aftermarket computer augmenting devices have shown good results but they are a bit costly (3 to 4 hundred dead presidents), buy one you can adjust without a laptop.
