Auto Racing: My Chevy Nova Rear, englishtown raceway park, edelbrock performer intake

Question
Hello, I own a 1978 Chevy Nova with a 305 V8, headers, 4 barrel 650cfm carb and an Edelbrock Performer intake, and 410's in the rear. I still have a stock trans...will the 410's destroy that trans? If so, do you suggest a different type of trans? Also, I read your bio, are you close to Philadelphia? I am looking for a good speedshop.
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Arthur. i've never really been asked that question  but thinking about the physics ,i'd say the trans should actually have a longer life  because of the mechanical advantage of the higher numerical gear ratio(the 4:10 gear  makes moving the load of the vehicle easier).more than anything ,trans  temperature (it is an automatic?)is the most important parameter (it should be near the same temp as engine coolant)250 degrees is my max .i use royal purple synthetic atf for an extra measure of protection . my shop is within 2 hours of you .we're regulars at Atco (about 1 1/2 hours from here,i'd say you're about 25 minutes from Atco)You might like the shop racecar ...if you see really clean "82 black malibu wagon or a white '67 chevy II that would be our current hotrods .My home track is Englishtown Raceway park which is 10 miles south of me .Thanks for the "good speed shop "reference ,i'd like to think we're one of the best around ..feel free to contact us .J mazio
