BMW Repair: 96 328i key will not turn in ignition, negative battery cable, dash lights

Tried 2 keys but the ignition will not turn. Also can't shut off inside dash lights or on-board computer. All accessories such as elect. windows etc. work inside even with key not in ignition. Steering wheel won't lock and auto transmission can be shifted with key out. Every once in awhile the key can be turned in the ignition but it just free spins.

Scott, You need several steering lock and cylinder components to fix this issue. Just pull the negative battery cable to avoid draining the battery. You need a special pick to remove the lock cylinder. I would take the car to someone who has some experience with this or the dealership.
