BMW Repair: xenon low beams, xenon bulb, low beams

Question
I have a 01 330xi with xenon head lights.  I reciently replaced both bulbs as the right side was out.  Now the right side went out for one period of driving at night then came back on.  This occured once more then the light failed completely. I have swapped bulbs and confirmed the bulbs are good.  Is it safe to swap the control module and ignitor individually into the working side for trouble shooting without risking burning out the good compnents in the left side

Answer
Warren, The faulty component is most likely the red and black ignitor box that clips onto the back of the Xenon bulb. The ignition control units are easier to swap, but I believe you will find the problem stays in the right Lamp assembly. The problem with the ignitor is that you have to disassemble the headlight completely to get to the mounting bolts. I would give you the green light to swap components from the assemblies. Just mark the components to remember which assembly the components came from.
