BMW Repair: 2001 BMW 325i turn signal replacement, fender lip, 2001 bmw 325i

Question
I just bought the replacement bulbs and thought it'd be easy to replace the front right turn signal light but when I popped the hood, I didn't know where to start. Is there any cover that I need to take out first?

Answer
Julia, there are two flavors of turn signal housings. both are accessible with the hood open. On the fender lip there will be a little cut out for a philips screw. Loosen the screw a couple turns and the housing should wiggle out. Release the bulb connector and turn the Bulb's socket housing. Once the bulb and socket are out you can press down and twist the bulb out. Make sure the socket where the metal tab contacts the bulb is not burnt or damaged. If even questionable replace it aswell. If the fender cut out doesn't have a philips screw then it will have a plastic spring tab that you have to depress with a long utensile while wiggleing out the Turn signal housing. Reinstall opposite disassembly. If you can't figure this out then the BMW service writers usually can do this for you in the driveway. Sometimes they charge you, and sometimes not.
