BMW Repair: oil in the intake, valve clearances, tube drive

Question
i have a 1987 325 produced 01/87, 2.7 automatic with 80,000 original kilometers.i have recently done the head and intake gaskets. i did the valve lash as best i could. it sounds better at least. i noticed it was not running properly when i finished so after warming it up i took off the intake boot from the throttle body. it was full of oil. after sourcing for a few ours i found that the down tube from the head to the lower half that allows oil flow, u know the one that has the big spring on it., anyway, it was not seated properly at the top. could this have been sucking air in and send oil up to the throttle body boot. or am i still searching

Answer
Jordan,
This could be one of many things going on.  I would suspect the valves could be at fault as well.  I would go back and double check the valve clearances to make sure.  It's probably best to do it while the valves are warm, as this is the actual operating conditions that the engine will see.

Replace the O-ring at the top of the tube, drive the car for a while, and check the boot again.  This may be the problem.

 Good luck,
 Josh
