BMW Repair: bmw 330dse subframe fault, field service engineer, sighn

Question
Hello Evan

I recently heard a knocking sound coming from the rear or my car when driving normally, when i took it to the dealer they said that the rear suspension sub frame was coming away from the body. The car has done alot of miles, its a 330dse (2000) with 147000 miles on the clock, but the dealer said there was no sighn of rust and that it could have been a fault at manufacture. Have you ever heard of this kind of fault before? do you think BMW will repair it for me? who are the best people to contact?
i would apreciate any help you could give.

Answer
Joe, We don't get much rust perforation issues on the West Coast of the U.S.  You could ask your dealer to set up an appointment with the FSE (field service engineer) and a BMW Rep. to determine if this is a factory defect or caused by a factory flaw (not very good odds). It is possible they will make a goodwill repair, but not likely. You didn't hear this from me. Remember the nicer you are the more likely people are willing to help you.
