GMC Repair: 98 tahoe 5.7l, fuel pump relay, fuse box

Question
simple question, when key is on, engine is off  i do not hear fuel pump.......but for the last few days it has been hard to start until tonight it just died like it was out of gas, my next step is to change out fuel pump, but the question is could it be just a bad relay, is it possilble that it was going out, or does it just sound like fuel pump, any advice would be helpful

Answer
Hi
It COULD be the relay, but they REALLY rarely are at fault.
You can under hood, take off the fuse box cover on drivers side.
Locate the fuel pump relay.
Have someone turn key on, engine off WHILE you keep fingers on relay.
It should click on, and then click off in about 5 seconds.
You'll be able to feel it easily.
IF NOT check the ECMB fuse located right next to relay.
If it is blown, suspect the fuel pump also.
I hope this helps.
Good luck
