MY PROBLEM IS WITH A 1998 JIMMY. THE AIRCONDITIONING WILL NOT STOP RUNNING.I UNDERSTAND THAT THE ELECTRIC CLUTCH SHOULD RUN FOR A SHORT TIME AND THEN TURN OFF AFTER PROPER PRESSURE IS REACHED AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN.AFTER ABOUT 5 MIN. OF NORMAL OPPERATION THE AIRCONDITIONER ELECTRIC CLUTCH DOES NOT DISINGAUGE AND THE AIR RUNS CONTINUESLY.IS THERE A CENSOR FOR SYSTEM PRESSURE THAT COULD BE BAD? I ALSO HAVE A ANTIFREEZE SMELL IN THE CAB. NOT OUTSIDE,ONLY IN THE CAB.COULD I HAVE A BAD HEATING UNIT EVEN THOUGH THERE IS'NT ANY ANTIFREEZE LEAKING?
Answer -
The A/C is operating FULL TIME either due to the anti-freeze leak of which could be anywhere on the engine or most likely the heater core is leaking.

Tonight when you PARK your car, Spread some newspapers under the engine  and back as far as the front seat FEET area of the driver and passengers areas and in the morning look and see where the paper is wet with anti-freeze and let me know WHERE the newspaper is wet.

The A/C could be running FULL TIME due to a loss of freon also due to a possible leak in the A/C system. This could be at any number of components and or hoses and could be the EVAPORATOR that is leaking.

When you find your wet spot on the newspaper, Smell the wet area and tell me if it has a SWEET smell to it or NOT.

UNFOURTUNATELY IT IS RAINING TONIGHT AND THE NEWSPAPER TEST WOULD BE INACCURATE, HOPEFULLY  THE NEWSPAPER TEST CAN BE DONE TOMORROW. BUT I CAN TELL YOU THAT THERE HASNT BEEN ANY LEAKING ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. YOU SAID THAT IF THE HEATER CORE IS LEAKING THEN THE A/C COULD RUN CONTINUOUSLY. WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A ANTIFREEZE SMELL IN THE CAB. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE HEATER CORE COULD BE LEAKING JUST ENOUGH TO CREATE THE ANTIFREEZE SMELL IN THE CAB AND MAKE THE A/C RUN CONTINUOUSLY WITHOUT SHOWING A LEAK ON THE GARAGE FLOOR? I APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION YOU CAN GIVE ME ON THIS PROBLEM. THANK YOU.

Answer
Most times when you can smell anti-freeze it is a heater core leak, But if the core IS leaking, the anti-freeze has to be going externally onto the ground or leaking under the rug on the passengers foot area.

The A/C could be LOW on freon also.

Let's get ONE thing fixed at a time.
