American Motors: engine swap, bolt pattern, spirit gt

I have a 1979 AMC Spirit GT with a 304, 4 speed , I think the tranny is a SR4 but not sure. I am putting a 1978-82 360 in it that came from a Jeep, will the motor and tranny work or do I need a tranny for the 360?  thank you, Rick

The engine you are installing came with an automatic trans. If you are installing the SR4 on the 360, you will need to install a pilot bushing in rear of the crankshaft to support the input shaft. You will also need a flywheel for a 360.
The bolt pattern for the bellhousing is the same for all late model AMC V-8 engines.
