American Motors: 1978 Jeep CJ5 oil blow back, piston rings, jeep cj5

Question
Hey Tom,
hope you can help. I have a 78 Jeep CJ5 thats been sitting up for a few months. I have changed the oil and overhauled the carb and other. The jeep is running pretty good, but I get oil blowing out of the dip stick. I checked the vacuum hose coming from the base of the carb thats connected to the valve on the top of the valve cover and it seems to work fine. still oil blowing out of the engine. any help?
thanks, Bill

Answer
Check PCV valve for being clogged and replace if necessary. Other fault could be stuck piston rings allowing combustion into the oil pan. You can purchase a solvent from any auto parts store and dump it in all the cylinders and let it set overnight to see if it will loosen the piston combustion rings. If NOT, You will have to pull the pistons.
