American Motors: Production number, amc rambler, american motors corporation

Question
I have an AMC Rambler 66 Convertible 770 body, built in Kenosa, USA.
Production number A6KS75A106650

I am trying to find out what these number stand for in order to gain a little bit of knowledge about this particular vehicle.

Best regards

Johannes

Answer
The number you sent is called the VIN (vehicle identification number) It can be read as:
A- American Motors Corporation
6- 1966
K - Transmission- I have not seen a "K" transmission code
5- Series-Are you sure this isn't a "1"? There is no "S",   and a "5" denotes Marlin.
7- Body-convertible
5- Group-770
A - Engine 199 CID 6 cylinder
106650- Serial number and plant (Kenosha)
I would recommend going to these websights for more information:http://www.amcrc.com/tech/tech.html or
www.planethoustonamx.com
Best of luck.
