Audio Systems: kicker solo barics 05s12l54, kicker solo barics, kicker solobarics

Question
QUESTION: i have 2 L5 kicker solobarics with a 1100watt boss mono block witch pushes good, i want to know if i can wire in a 2 channel 1000watt amp. like with the one amp on the outer voice coils of each speaker and the 2 channel wired to each of the speakers inner voice coils, can i also run 3 amps of of one 2 farad compacitor? thanks i have several amps and woofers and dont quite know he best configuration

ANSWER: You will either need one, mono amp for each speaker or you can run a stereo amp across both in bridged mono.
As to real amp specifications.. I presume yours is a CX1100M:
RMS Power Output @ 4 Ohms : 250 Watts x 1-Channel
RMS is all that matters since it is an average or continuous power rating.
Do not kid yourself, Matt. Your 90 dollar amp only has a 25 amp fuse in it. Many decent amps that claim 1100 watts have 60-90 amps worth of fusing on them.
I have no idea how you have wired the four coils (please tell me exactly how you did it). This 'loading' info is paramount as to how much power the amp will safely produce. Without that data I also cannot tell you exactly how much power each coil is getting. I can tell you that (safely) at best it is not more than about 100 watts for each voice coil. If you had to wire them at 4 or 8 ohms, you may only be getting 30-65 watts to each coil right now.
You need to at least let me know which models they are so I know the impedance of each coil.

btw to give you an idea of your caps' ability, you easily could run 10 of those Boss amps on that 2 Farad cap. So the answer is "what type and model of amps do you plan to possibly use 3 of".. see?
It WOULD run one of these:

I have not read an L5 manual but from my understanding of DVC subs, if you try to run the dual coils of one speaker off of the power from two different power amps, you will probably destroy the speaker and possibly the amp(s). I would not suggest trying it at all unless someone else is willingly paying the costs of your possibly 'destructive testing'. The signals of the two amps, though very similar in data rate, would NOT be identical at all times as the speaker coils move and react. This is not good at the speeds a speaker moves.
Ultimately, If Kicker does not endorse the idea, I would not try it. They are usually very helpful in these matters and you are encouraged to get in touch with them via the internet or phone for further specific advice on that idea.

I have an attic full of gear myself :) Let me know the specifics of your speakers and the models of some of these amps or other gear you plan you use then we can hopefully make it hit like Bruce Lee.

doh  I just saw the model number in the subject line.. my bad :)
12" 600 watts RMS per coil, 4 Ohms per coil and typical low efficiency for such speakers of 87.9 Db @ 1 watt.
So you can have them wired at a range of impedance's to the amp from 1-16 ohms AND they need a lot of power to really sing. I would suggest something close to 1/2 the RMS rating per coil. That equals 1200 watts RMS.
Class D amps are less expensive when going after subsonics.

Check the wiring against the link I sent to the DVC-wiring and let me know how they are currently wired, Matt. Sorry for the brain fart. I am not at home and am logged thru a secure pipe to my home pc.

QUESTION: yes you are correct about the whole situation, now my questions is i just sold all my old stuff what would be a suitable amp for those 2 kicker L-5's? maybe one more of those same amps (cx1100m)which i can buy for about 125.00 with a warranty. the speakers dont sound bad i just know i am cheating myself. thank you for your help i am in the savannah ga area if you know a place here i canb buy a good amp but bugetable as well i would appreciate it. thanks  again dude

Answer
In 3 days you sold all yer older stuff?  :(
The Boss amp could be duplicated and then run one for each speaker.
The deal is the impedance load on each of the mono amps will change when compared to one of those same mono amps running 2 speakers.

Example:
Kicker coils wired in parallel (2 ohms per speaker) with a cx1100 to each speaker for about 200 watts to each coil.
That should equate to great bang for the buck as long as your expectations and gain settings are reasonable. The pair of amps are obviously going to be more temperamental (as to stability) and hotter at 2 ohms. Make sure the cooling and ventilation are more than adequate.

I was reared on the high end car audio in South Texas then Oregon, now I reside in the Midwest. I wish I knew a local shop to point to towards but the internet is a vast resource.
I did see that CX1100 new on ebay for 90.00 plus shipping.

Good luck, Matt.
