Audio Systems: small dancing clud, quilted blankets, mixer mackie
Red Carpet
Hi Robert, I'm going to open a small teenagers dancing club in our town, I'll use a PC or Laptop as a player, an 8 chanel mixer(Mackie), 4 self powered 15" 2-way speakers(Electrovoice) and a 15" subwoofer w/750 w(Electrovoice).I would like to hear your opinion as an expert if I am thinking correctly considering that I expect to have 100 customers maximum and looking at the site plan of the space I'm gonna rent (attached in this message) I need to know were is convenient to install the speakers(4) and the sub. the location of the speakers in the room is very important. Could you suggest it?, the overall measurement of the space is 54' X 37" but I have inside the restrooms,  the receiver and the audio room which is giving me a hard time in the position for the speakers, Thanks in advance.

Answer
Marcos,

Please tell me the following:

How high is the ceiling?

Describe the surfaces of ceiling floor and walls (IE - Concrete, Dry Wall, etc).

Will there be any absorbent materials used. (Drapes, Carpets, soft furniture?

54 x 37 feet is 2,000 square feet. Take away the Reciever & Audio closets and it's still about 1,800 sq ft.

Using 4 speakers in a place of that size, if it's reflective surfaces, will make it cavernous. Typically our designs deploy more speakers in a distributed system.

Here are some ideas that you can experiment with:

Select about a 600 square ft section to use as a dance area. Locate your speakers and subwoofer in that section. If you can, drop  4'x 4' absorbent panels at varied heights from the ceiling spacing them about 6" apart and at least 6 to 24" from the ceiling to cover at least the 600' area (if not most of the room). They do not have to be perfectly parallel to the floor. You can be creative with the panels (tufted, quilted, blankets, fiberglass, tectum, RPG, foam rubber whatever is easiest and within your budget).

You should hang the speakers and face them downward so that the centers of each speaker face an opposite corner of the dance floor. The subwoofer should be located on the floor on the outer perimeter of the dance floor.
