Audio Systems: iPod Audio System., roland microcube, guitar amp

Question
Hi Robert,

I am looking into audio options for playing mp3's from my iPod at party-like
atmospheres.  I am trying to find a portableish set of speakers that I can
bring with me to a party to dj music with.

Currently, I use a Roland MicroCube guitar amp.  It is not a very loud amp,
but by far surpasses all ipod/ihome type speakers ive seen in terms of
volume.  However, being a guitar amp, the bass is very lacking, which has led
me on this search.

Do you have any advice for inexpensive portable audio speakers (preferably
one unit/speaker) that I could travel with/manage by myself that would be
loud enough for a party?  Mixing and effects are not necessary, nor are
"good-looks".  It needs to play quality music, not much else!

Thanks!

I recommend this unit to anyone who is looking for a portable solution for any device. If you can convince your friends to buy at least one each, then you really can have a party. You can tune each one of them into whatever source you plug in (in your case the iPod). It can be used wired or wireless. One simple unit with a portable handle.

If you want something better sounding I recommend the Cambridge model 12 but it requires set up each time you want to use it.

If you want something bigger, louder and heavier there are monitor speakers that you can find for live performances. Some of the manufacturers are Samson, Yamaha, JBL, Mackie. These can be mounted onto Ultimate support stands or tilted up from the floor.

All 3 types are amplified so all you will require is the cable.
