Audio Systems: Denon avr-1601 power problem, software corruption, wire strand

Question
my power keeps shutting off after 3 sec. and goes back to standby. the standby
light then blinks continuously. Is my amp shot?

Answer
Probably not.
Most common causes of this problem (which is activation of the protection circuit) are;

ONE:  Shorted voice coil in one of the speakers.
TWO:  Shorted wiring somewhere, most often a speaker wire strand is touching over on the terminal at the back of the amplifiers.
THREE:  Shorted out power transistor caused by overdriving the speakers and running the amplifier too hot causing it to break down.

So, remove the speaker connections at the back of the avr and see if it still shuts down. If it does, the problem is internal.  If it seems okey with no speakers connected it is a bad speaker or wiring.

Lastly, on occasion, the avr will lock up from software corruption. This can be corrected with a hard reset.  To reset, unplug the power cord for 30 minutes; then try it again.

Hope this helps.  Questions?
