QuestionI have a 1998 Bmw 740il, I also just purchased at pioneer avic n3. The pioneer is not installed in the Bmw but there is no sound. I have intergrated the existing amplifier because the car contains 10 speakers and just my head unit can't power it. It seems like the remote is not turning the amp on. When hooked to the existing system a premium amp integration module. When a spare speaker is hooked to the N3 directly it powers it perfect. We also tried hooking the rca preout strait to the integration module, thinking just a high level pass through. Does the center piece,radio tuner part, have anything to do with this problem.

The N3 has a really thorough 232 page manual with every kind of installation diagram and instruction.
The existing system in the BMW you did not explain; if it is the stock sound system that comes with the car, it is made by Becker, a German radio. The interface and wiring is known to be very different from most American cars. I am sorry but I don't have much experience with BMW sound systems. It is my understanding that BMW may have some hidden amplifiers among the 10 speakers. Certain ones are powered from the in-dash unit and others are powered by the external amp(s) that are mounted in such places as behind the dash, under seats or in the trunk area - I am just not sure where BMW hides them.
Here is my suggestion: Obtain a VOM tester for measuring voltage and ohms resistance (from Home Depot or Walmart for under $10) and with it check the 12v lines to the amplifier. This will help you solve the remote problem. With the ohmmeter you can check the speaker wiring to each of the 10 speakers - where you should get a low reading of around 4 to 6 ohms for the speaker.
You might refine the question and get a second opinion from one of the other audio system experts on allexperts. They may have more experience with BMW vehicles than do I.
