Audio Systems: 300m radio - what a joke, side kick panel, power amp

Question
I just read your response to a previous question concerning failure of the radio system in a 2001 300m.  Exactly same as mine, however I have replaced the radio with a Sony and got the same response.  I have also replaced the infinity amp in the trunk with a used one off of Ebay.  While waiting for the replacement I hacked the plug assm off of the old infinity amp and made a bypass harness.  The radio work fine--except for the loss of amp signal distribution.  Forget the dealer--they are idiots--they suggested i replace the amp located behind the passenger side kick panel--which there is none.  Another board suggested i check the amp turn on circuit--which they will not provide a wiring color for.  I am at a total loss, would like to have a wiring diagram.  Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Answer
I believe the following page may be right or very close for your car.

http://installdr.com/Harnesses/DCP-Wiring.pdf

At least look at it and see if it seems to match up.

Also, www.crutchfield.com has a link called "outfit your car" that will work you down to the right wiring harness and other products that will fit.  Also, they have some installation links that may be useful for you.

In the worst case and if you are technical - which sounds like you are pretty smart about the wiring basics - go to Home Depot or Walmart and purchase their little VOM (for under $10) whereas it makes a realy good auto tester and trace out the wires so you know exactly which wire goes where and then wire accordingly.  But, even then I recommend you get the right wiring harness from crutchfield, bestbuy, circuitcity and other such suppliers.  The $10 will be well spent making it easier for the install and nice when you need to pull the head unit out for servicing, etc.

Of course, you must determine if there really is an external power amp in the car or not and if it is wired correctly.

Hope this will help you get started, but come back if there is more discussion needed.
