Audio Systems: Jammed CD player in Volvo C70, volvo c70, hair pin

Question
I have a 3 CD changer in my Volvo C70. I placed a few older CD's in last weekend to play. It keeps trying to change CD's but I keep getting an error message... and the worst part is I can't get it to eject so I can remove them! Help! How can I get the CD player to eject so I can remove the CD's?

Answer
Jamming is a pain in the neck.  There are many reasons for it and sometimes they can be removed with a simple reset; sometimes it takes a technician to go inside and remove them. In the worst case the changer must be replaced.

If a foreign object is the cause (paper clip or hair pin or dirt) the object must be removed.

If it is because of incompatible discs  - such as homemade cdrs - a reset will usually clear it.

If the mechanism is damaged or worn out then major repairs or replacement is in order.

To do a reset it requires the power to be removed from the entire unit for 30 minutes, then powered back up.  But, do not disconnect the changer or the battery in the car until you know you have the anti-theft code or you will never be able to get the player/radio back on again.

I think you should go to an install/repair shop if you have doubts about what to do.

But, ask more questions of me if you need more ideas.

PS:  The error message could mean trouble with the unit independent of the disc in the changer OR it could be caused by a faulty disc as well.
