Audio Systems: No sound, black hook, house speakers

Question
I have a wiring harness and used that to install the stereo. Are there instances where the wire harness wire colors dont match the after market stereo?  For example, the grey/grey and black hook up to the green/green and black wire instead of grey's to grey's?

I put a after market stereo in my Honda Accord (1993) and no sound come out.  The stereo is a 25x4 Peak Power stereo.  I tested the original car speakers and they work fine and I tested the stereo with somew house speakers and it worked too, but I had to turn the stereo up full blast to hear anything.  Is the low wattage that the stereo has causing my problems? Does it not have enough juice to pump the music out of my speakers?

Answer -
25 watts peak power is actually about 10w in real power, but it is enough to get a good sound output.

Please go to this page (to the bottom sections) and make SURE you have it wired correctly. Of course you will need the wiring codes from the radion you are working with so you can match up the wiring.  You must have it right or you can do serious damage to the unit.

Since you got little sound from the unit when wired to home speakers, I think you may have gotten the wires crossed coming out of the unit; please check it very carefully; there is no room for a mistake.

It is possible, too, the unit is not working properly.  To do a bench test, as you did, is the right thing to do before installing it in a vehicle; then you know for sure.

Good Luck.  I think you are on the right track.

Answer
Yes, yes and yes. I never trust wiring harnesses.  Always check them out first to make sure you really know.  And is it the correct wiring harness for your car?

You can check them out easily if you have a vom or a 6 v battery. If the speakers are still wired in the car correctly, you can use clip leads to apply the 6 volt batter to each speaker.  When you touch the battery to the speaker wires you will hear the speaker clicking; then you know that pair of wires go that speaker which is clicking.

Let me know if you need more.
