Audio Systems: Car audio, gmc pickup, stock stereo

Question
1998 GMC pickup. Stock stereo, cassette w/EQ. It constantly pops like a machine gun. With or W/Out the engine running. It still picks up radio stations. The volume of the popping is loud. the volume is consistant thru each of the 4 speakers. No manipulation of ANY controls on the truck changes this. I have checked all the grounds and all the connections. This is a weird set up to be putting an aftermarket as the eq is to the left of the radio in another spot on the dash. Can this be repair? Is it worth it. The truck is a keeper.

Answer
Anything can be fixed Kris, but that is the last thing I would advise to do on a system that is over 6 years old.
They make many nice adaptor kits (including blocker plates for the EQ) for that model that make it look very near OEM/factory.
I would check out www.crutchfeild.com for those where you can even speak to a live representative online about your vehicles' specific needs.

It does not sound like you want to do the repair yourself so ...As to having repairs done, you will need to locate a local repair shop for that.
Keep in mind that no matter who repairs it (or even remanufacture's it), the system may break/fail the very next day for a similar (or totally different) reason like: The poweramp or the EQ.

Sincerely,
Jerry Mael
