Audio Systems: cassette player problems when hooked up to mp3 player, electronic tapes, ford taurus

Question
I have a 1995 Ford Taurus.  I have hooked up my mp3 player through the cassette player and it will play the music, but about once or twice every song the cassette player will make a clicking sound (like something is shifting inside), stop the music for about 2 seconds, and then go back to the music.  While it makes the clicking sound, the screen says TAPE with a little 1 in the left corner and then switches to a little 2 in the same place, and then switches back to a 1.  Then other times, while music is playing, there is a loud thumping noise (but the music doesn't stop).  I know it doesn't have anything to do with the mp3 player because it's skip-free and I had a cd-player hooked up before and I thought that was the problem, but it does the same thing with the mp3.  Any idea what is wrong with it or what I can do?

Answer
hi
yes i know what is the problem that radio was made to play tapes only and 22 minute tapes   your radio is getting tire and old this electronic tapes damage the cassette all the time i never seen one that works what is doing is switching from side a of tape to side b of tape that is 1 and 2

if there is a cd button on the radio
go in the trunk  left side remove the carpet and you are going to find a big silver or black box THAT IS THE RADIO look at the antenna wire ,the unit at front is just a remote
now if in this box there is a free plug
you can plug your mp3 player there

and you need to buy the cable for that
