Audio Systems: 2003 Blazer tape deck trouble, chevy blazer, cassette radio

I have a 2003 Chevy Blazer with a combination AM/FM, CD, and Cassette radio. This model year displays a tape if one is inserted into the deck and a cd when one is in the player. However, there is no tape currently in the deck and the light is still on and every time I try to insert a tape, it takes the tape in, and spins for a couple seconds with no sound, then ejects it. I recently bought this vehicle and this problem existed at the time of purchase, so I don't know what caused it or when it first started.

Will it play the cd or the radio?
Or is it stuck in tape mode?

If you are not able to use the unit at all I would suggest replacing it. The money spent on repairing these things is not usualy worth it. You can get a whole new unit for between $100 and $200 dollars at your local wrecking yard.
