Audio Systems: Progressive Scan Mode, progressive scan mode, wall receptacle

Question
HI, I have a Zenith DVD/VCR player with progressive scan mode. I believe the model is an XBV443. I was messing with the controls to see what everything did and I turned on Progressive scan mode. I can watch movies on the VCR but not on the DVD. I can hear it but I cant see it. All it gives me is a blue screen that says "Progressive scan mode" And I cant see the menu to turn it off. What do I do?

Answer
Dear Brooke,

(My granddaughter's name is Brooke...)

Unplug the unit from the wall receptacle. That should reset the top level menu.

Progressive scan can only be deployed if (1) you have a digital TV monitor capable of receiving its signal array, and (2) you're using a video connection called "component video", which is a 3-way RCA cord coded red, blue, and green. What's happened is that you've tried to invoke progressive scan without the compliant TV and video connection, so the DVD player doesn't know what to do. Generally, the menus don't disappear, but unplugging/plugging back in should fix that.

The Zenith web site (http://zenith.com) can direct you to a nearby repair service if the player won't reset.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
