Audio Systems: 1987 Ford Taurus factory stereo problem, fuse one, ford taurus

Question
i have a 1987 ford taurus with it's original factory cassette am/fm stereo. everytime i get in and drive, every now and then it will shut off and then come back on. this will happen as many as one time to 10 in five minutes. it didnt bother me at first but after 2 1/2 months it gets pretty damn annoying. Also, i dont know if this has anything to do with it but when my radio does actually work, when i turn on my fan it has a whine to it. but when the radio doesnt work, the whine in the fan goes away. I was just wondering if you knew how to fix my problem or what it was at least. could be a bad ground or just a shitty tape deck, lol. thanks,

josh

Answer
Josh,

haha well you have to face the fact that the unit over over 15 years old so its had a very long productive life of service and its time to retire to the large silver can.. i would trash the old unit and install an aftermarket unit that fits your budget and your sound needs... just make sure you use a wire harness adapter to wire everything up .. about the fan .. the old stocker unit could have had a short that would put a drain on certain shared accessories.. but give your fuse block a good once over and check every fuse one at a time and check ALL fuses not just fan/radio related ones replace as needed.. the swap out should cure the problem .. if you need anything else bro just let me know

thanks
