Cody,
Thanks for your response.  Your information is exactly what I am looking for.  I would like to know what Make and Model # components you reccommend for the entire system.  I am going to go ahead and have it installed by a professional and eliminate that concern.  In the long run I think it will work out better for me that way.  Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Dan

I have restored a 1985 Chev 1 ton 4X4 pick up with a standard sized cab (I realize this size cab will limit some options).  The truck turned out clean as a whistle inside and out (black with silver) and runs strong and quiet.   It now needs a nice sound system.  I would like advice on selecting quality system components (make, model #'s) and where to mount same.  I have around $1600 to spend including installation.  The system will play mostly Led Zeppelin CD's (I am a big John Bonham fan and thoroughly enjoy this band's thunder), some FM and AM sports (baseball games).  Quite a gap to cover (I am the HS baseball coach who still likes to rock occassionally to his favorite band from the old days while communting to the ballyard in his old pick up).  I don't need to impress anyone else.  I want the system to have a very strong, clean sound stage for me.  I have some room behind the bench seat for an enclosure if that's recommended but can't move it forward (I'm 6'4" and need the leg room).  I have found myself swamped by all the choices and combinations and most everybody nowadays has at least a crew cab so I haven't really been able to listen to any standard size cab set ups to get an idea of what to get.  Any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated as I really don't know who to turn to for honest info (I figured most shops are going to be like car dealerships so I wanted to get an opinion from someone not trying to make a commission or get rid of something on the shelf).  Thanks in advance.  If I could ever return the favor.  Sincerely, Dan

Dan,

ok no problem i'm a classic rock fan and a huge LED fan among Grateful Dead, AC DC , Stones and all the GOOD music .. 1600 is a huge budget to blow you wont need half that much in a system that will keep you happy .. i can recommend model numbers ect.. if you want let me know if you do and i can .. but for now i will recommend brands and the setup .. ok .. let start with the head unit .. i always recommend sony xplod that is the brand I USE and trust great performance for a sweet price .. they offer a great unit for under 200 that offer MP3 and CDR and CDRW playback .. also i would recommend a 4 speaker setup in simple stock locations such as 4x6 in the dash and 6.5's in the doors then put say a 10 inch sub in the middle behind your seat along with 2 high power 6x9's .. i would recommend 2way 4x6's for the dash * or equal for your fit* and 3 way 6.5 in the door* or for your fit .. then the 6x9 which buy an amp for most handle 70 watts RMS so get a good 300 watt amp that kicks atleast 60 watts RMS to push the 6x9's ... then have a decent sub for the middle of your system behind your seat something that pushes atleast 300 RMS and power it with an amp that has atleast that .. you will also need a 1 farad capacitor to keep everything powered .. now my guide is just a guide you can vary it anyway you want but if you catch my idea you will have great high-mid sounds from the front and rear * for the good classic rock sounds* and the sub in the middle for the bass just enough to let people know you have more than stock in your truck !! .. now if you want specifics i will be glad to give you some .. and to save you some serious cash you can do this yourself .. installs are nothing to be feared .. but before you ask about a place to buy i will give you a good site to look at etronics.com that is where i buy most of my electronics from .. but if you need anything else let me know i will be glad to help out

thanks

Answer
Dan,

glad to hear that i helped you out here are some numbers to throw at you if you want to check out all the detailed specs you can search the model at etronics.com and view all the other stuff .. now for the sub and the 6x9's behind the seat you will need some speaker boxes i would recommend using a sealed angled 10 inch box and then 2 decent sized 6x9 boxes but your shop can help you with those.. it is a good idea if your not used to the installing and just so you can have everything handled for you if you dont have the time to dedicate to the install..now the list i have below is just how i would like it if it was on my own vehicle i like the 2 amp setup just because you dont have one large sub running 2 differnt types of speakers and freqs .. but a single large watt amp would do just as good .. also i couldnt find a .5 farad capacitor which i would also have 2 of one for each amp instead of 1 large cap for both but your installer can put in his opinion and change things around between you and him also i went with all sony just to keep the theme you can change brands or interchange dependingon what you like and find you like better.. if you need anything else let me know is been a pleasure !!! =)
