Audi Repair: 1994 Audi 90cs No Start, coil pack, firing order

Question
Hi Jan,
I have a 94' 90cs 2.8L SOHC I replaced the ignition coil pack because the back coil was not firing.  So I got the new one (From the Dealer) put it on and pulg it in and the engine spins but doen't start, it doesn't even try.  I fliped the coil pack over and the wires don't seem to go to the same coils as the OEM one that was on it.  I did get it to run real rough by wiring the plug wires backward but if you gave it any gas it died.  Any Idea what is happening with this?

Thanks For you help
Jason

Answer
Hi Jason,

If the coil pack is the same, it should be wired identically to the way the old one came off.  It sounds like you have the firing order incorrect.  So first verify that the part number on the coil pack is the same as the one you removed, and then verify that the firing order is correct.  Since you have a six cylinder engine, and only three coils, the engine works on a 'wasted spark' principle, so two plugs fire simultaneously, one plug fires when it is not needed.  The firing order is 143625, so plugs 1 and 6 are connected to the same coil pack, 4 and 2 to the next, and 3 and 5 to the last.  Let me know what you find,

Jan
