Audi Repair: 2000 A4 Audi Quattro, fuse box, flasher relay

Question
For the past couple of weeks my turn signals (both sides) have been sticking on occasionally. The stick seems to be fine but they just don't blink (and click)  The bulbs work fine and I've been hoping it would fix itself.  Now they dont come on at. When I use the stick to turn a very faint light will come on in the indicator for a split second but nothing.  And the Hazards work fine and all the bulbs work fine.  I bought a flasher relay thinking that its most likely the problem but I can't find where it goes.  Near the fuse box there are a bunch of relays but none match what I have and because they are difficult to get to I don't want to start pulling them to compare.  Do you think they flasher is the problem and where does it go?

Answer
I do not think it is the flasher as the hazard lights work normally and it uses the same flasher.  I think it is the control itself.  I have seen problems with the contacts, these things connect around the steering column, and sometimes these contacts get a little loose.  You can try holding the turn signal stick and wiggling/slightly twisting the wiper stick on the other side to see if the behaviour changes... If this looks like the problem, to fix it means taking the steering wheel off, and therefore you have to disconnect the battery and be familiar with airbag removal.  Might be safer to get this done by a shop.  Let me know what you find, Jan
