Audi Repair: Check engine light, vacuum hoses, hood latch

Question
I have an 02' A4 1.8t quattro with about 64000 miles. It had been maintained bya dealership before i got it and I have followed the recommended service intervals myself of 10000 miles for an oil change and used mobile 1. I have two questions, the first is even though I changed the oil myself is the engine still under the extended warranty for sludge? Second, the check engine was on and i reset it but the code was P7071 system too lean (bank 1). It came back on after about 2 weeks and I just reset it. Do you have any idea what would cause this specific code? and what is this "bank 1" all about? I really appreciate any help you can give me.

Answer
hello
Every time when we had cars with engine problems , costumer had to show all services or oil changes done outside the dealer. I'm sure whey will accept yourself ,but make sure you have all receipt for oil and filter. I do own Audi also and in my opinion oil change every 10k is way too long. I do oil change every 5 to 7 K
Since your car was maintained by Audi dealer I'm sure they did not use synthetic oil unless you pay for synthetic. It will very good idea to change oil before 10 K.
System too lean bank 1 --- bank 1 and 2 is used by Audi .
bank 1 is right side , bank 2 left side - only on V6, V8,V10 and W12 engines. Since your cat is 4 cylinder you have only one bank - bank 1.
System toolean means too much air , most of the time vacuum leak set this fault. You can check all vacuum hoses, there are 2 that brake most of the time. One is on the back of cylinder head, goes to round valve. And second is right on the front, on the intake , close to hood latch.
if any of them is broken - replace it.
good luck                    pltech
