Audi Repair: audi/vw brake repair, vw passat, screw type

Question
As I understand it, the Audi A4 and the VW Passat share many parts, so I hope that you can help with a VW question. I've just changed the back brakes in my 2002 2-wheel drive VW Passat. When I restarted the car the brake light on the right side of the speedometer came on and stayed on and I have a flashing warning on the dash that says STOP-BRAKE FAULT-CHECK OWNERS MANUAL. This wasn't on before I started the work. The brakes seemed to be fine, including the ABS, when I road tested it. Both the rotors and the pads were replaced with aftermarket stock parts from Autozone. The bleeders were never opened to allow air into the system, and it wasn't low on brake fluid. The only thing that I can think of that I may have done wrong is that I compressed the piston on the caliper but didn't screw it in while compressing it. (Found out after doing the brakes that this is how to do it.) Did I break my brakes or is there a solution to this? I disconnected the battery to attempt to reset the system, but no change. Thanks for your help.

Answer
HI
I think you may damaged some mechanizm for E-brake only. Because, screw type piston is only for e-brake. If it says check owners manual, did you check it?
On audis red light with STOP and BRAKE means fluid level too low. It happen to me ones after replacing brakes, by pushing back piston fluid goes back to res. tank . Sometimes level sensor gets stuck in lower position , make sure it is not stuck down. You can see it and move up and down if you open res. tank.
good luck
