Auto Electronics: Remote Keyless Entry, ford crown victoria, keyless entry system

Question
I have a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria. It use to be an unmarked law enforcement vehicle. I was not given a remote key fob when I purchased the vehicle. I would prefer to buy a key fob than an entire keyless system. How can I tell if this vehicle is equipped with a keyless entry system.

Answer
Hello Tom.

As standard, Ford Victoria Generally comes with a remote access option. However being an x-law enforcement vehicle it may be that the technical was ordered without the option. There are 2 ways of finding out if you have the remote access option on your car. Both are likely to incur a charge.

Option 1) Buy the remote for your vehical, then arrange and auto locksmith or dealer to attempt programming. If it doesn't work, you can sell the remote on Ebay and hopefully not be too out of pocket.
Option 2) Take your car to a local dealership and ask for them to do a system scan to detect if your car has a remote frequence receiver. They are likely to charge you for this and if it does have the receiver you will need to pay again to order the remote then get it programmed.

The cost of the remote should be around $55.

Hope this helps.
