QUESTION: Hi Rob..Thank you in advance for your time. I have a 1988 Cadillac Eldorado Biaritz....Runs great....but..always one of those huh...yesterday after my son put stuff in the trunk and closed it, the message board said trunk open, yet it was closed...so we popped the trunk and now the auto close doesnt work, nor can I shut it manualy....help please....what do I do??? Thank you again!!

ANSWER: Hello,

The first thing you need to do is get the Phillips screwdriver out..
Remove the cover by the latch and check the 15 amp fuse and see if it is blown.

QUESTION: Unable to find fuse....I apologize....should I be looking by the trunk motor, or above on the trunk lid? Is it normal for the lid to not even shut manualy?

Answer
Hello,

You cannot shut the lid manually with that pull down. Personally, I don't care for the device myself and just like shutting a trunk manually.

If you want to shut the trunk manually and eliminate that stupid trunk pull down, I can tell you how. It is rather easy.

On the lid looking straight up, there is another cover you will remove for the latch. There are 3 10 mm head bolts on the latch. Just loosen the bolts, good enough so you can slide the latch all the way upward. Tighten bolts. Close trunk normally. If it won't latch, you will need to lossen the bolts again and move the latch downward a small increment. Tighten. Close trunk, see if it closes like a normal trunk. It takes a little playing around, but you are basically eliminating the use of the pull down. Shouldn't take but a couple of minutes.
