Cadillac Repair: cadillac ign switch, tension spring, model vehicle

im trying to help the kid down the street he has a 1990 cat and the ign switch just sticks to the on position no return like the spring broke he ordered a new switch i pulled the wheel off and removed the old switch it was the same the rack or gear that rides on the gear of the switch is there a spring under the gear im not sure so please help this car has a tilt also.

What MODEL vehicle ?.

The tension spring is in the electrical ignition switch on the steering column under the dash. There is a metal rod that connects the key ignition switch to the electrical ignition switch that you need to TAPE to the steering column so that it will NOT fall out of the column when you remove the electrical ignition switch.
