Cadillac Repair: 92 Cadillc brougham (Over heating), cadillac brougham, engine coolant

Question
QUESTION: Dear Joy:

Thank you for your previous answers to my questions for hard hot starting of 92 Cadillac brougham (5.7L)

I would like to expect one more answer from you for the same problem of the Cadillac.

We tested the fuel pressure by insert a Gauge on the fitting in the engine body and the pressure is 4, below the range of 9-13 as you indicated in the last answer.

We tested by starting the engine and the fuel pressure reading is 4, but the engine is staying just for a few second then died off. The pressure dropped dramatically to zero.

My question: Is the problem related to fuel pressure regulator or check valve in the  fuel pump. What parts do we have to replace? the fuel pressure regulator or the fuel pump? Please help!

Thank you for your anticipated help.

Louis Lee

ANSWER: fuel pump.

QUESTION: Dear Tom Joy:

I replaced the fuel pump and the car running great now.

Thank you for your professional answer to solve the hard starting problem.

Another concern now is that I suspect an over heating problem thought there is no temperature warning light on.

When I open the hood after driving for about 30 minutes, I fell a heat wave and all the parts under the hood got very hot,a kind of  burning hot. also a kind of crack noise  can be heard some where.

I checked the radiator and the coolant is full. The  hose both on the top and bottom  are warm. the top one is warmer than the one  on the bottom. But the coolant in the reservoir is cool, not warm at all.

I would like  to know if this is a over heating problem.

Is that normal for the parts getting burning hot under the hood?

Is there anything wrong with the cooling system or fuel system( may be too much fuel injected to the engine after replacing the fuel pump)?

Yours,

Louis Lee

Answer
Sounds perfectly normal to me as the engine is aluminum and gets extremly hot in a hurry.

As long as the engine coolant remains normal which is approx 220 degrees which is much hotter than the older cars that ran at 180 degrees.

I don't see any problem.
