Question
i recently replace my steering wheel, in my 1990 caddy/4.5
v8 engine, and now the key will not come out of the switch and the panel lights ore reading security system and remove key from ignition. i did a diagnostic check for codes and they read : EO52 HISTORY, B122 HISTORY,B552 HISTORY, RO22 HISTORY, RO26CURRENT,RO33HISTORY,RO34HISTORY,ECM?
HOW DO I CUT THE SECURITY SYSTEM OFF AND REMOVE THE KEY?

Answer
Hi Odell,

Just replaceing a steering wheel shouldn't have any effect on the lock cylinder and getting the key out. Sometimes what happens is the linkage that goes between the lock cylinder and the ignition switch on the side of the steering column gets damaged or broken and that could be your problem.

I would say that if you looked under the dash at the column and find the rod you might be able to determine if it has slipped out. Otherwise you or your mechanic will need to take the column apart and see what has broken and replace it or put in a used column.

The codes don't really help with the key issue although the R026 is a suspension/strut code that has a problem that needs to be diagnosed. The rest of the codes could be cleared and see what ones reset and then those would be the ones I would be concerned about fixing.

As far as disableing the security system that has nothing to do with the key not comming out...it would however cause the engine not to start.

Hopefully I have been of some help. Bill
