Cadillac Repair: Does a 2000 Escalade have a fuel pump shut off switch if so were is it located?, ecalade, gm vehicles

Question
Does a 2000 Escalade have a fuel pump shut off switch if so were is it located? it was driving ok, no problems, i parked and when i came back it would not start - i then noticed that there was no "noise" that i normally hear when the ignition is turned on... it is the "noise" associated with the fuel pump, any suggestions? Maybe its the relay, if so where is it?

Answer
Hi Mario,

GM vehicles don't use a fuel pressure cutoff switch...thats a Ford thing. I don't have access to a shop manual for the Escalade today because its my day off. However you might look in your owners manual because they give fuse and relay center locations. If you don't have the manual I would start with the one under the hood because thats where alot of the newer vehicle fuel pump fuses and relays seem to be located.

Because of the year of the Ecalade it wouldn't surprise me if the fuel pump is bad. What you could do is take a hammer and tap on the bottom of the fuel tank in the middle (but not hard enough to make and dents) while someone cranks the engine. If it starts it might stay running long enough to get the vehicle to a shop otherwise it would be best to have it towed. If you don't have a helper then tap 5-6 times and then try starting the engine. Repeat 3 times and it could start. Then have your mechanic replace the fuel pump module and fuel filter.

    Hope that helps. Bill
