Cadillac Repair: 1987 allante, jumper cables, fuel pump relay

I'VE REPLACED THE STARTER. DID TRY TO START IN NEUTRAL,EVEN ALLOWED IT TO ROLL BACK,TRYING TO TURN ENGINE OR STARTER.NOTHING!COULD IT BE A SECURITY ISSUE? THANKS

Question -
3 times the car has let me down! drive a short distance,do a little shopping.come back to the car,completely dead as for starting with the key.but lights work,windows work etc. even jumper cables -nothing? battery show's spark.wait & come back next morning fires up with no problem. had it towed to a dealer 1 time,left it their for a week,they could not find anything-cause it started? only has 60.000 mi in great shape. nice car. thanks

Most likely a heat sensitive starter where the armature is opening up due to the heat and once it cools down it closes the break.

Replace the starter Or it could be a problem with the neutral starter safety switch.

Try starting it in NEUTRAL when it won't start in pARK.

WHY did you not relay this to me the first time ?.

Next time it won't start see if you have spark at the spark plugs and if you do, See if it will TRY and run on starting fluid. If it DOES, This tells us we have a fuekl issue which could very well be the fuel pump.

Fuel pump test:

1. Get yourself a helper.

2. remove the gas cap.

3. have one person listen in the gas tank at the gas cap opening.

4. have the other person turn the ignition switch to the ON position ONLY so as the dash lights come on. Do NOT attempt to start the engine.

5. As soon as the ignition key is turned to the ON position, The person at the gas tank should hear the fuel pump run for TWO SECONDS and then it should STOP.

6. Does it ?.

7. If it does NOT run for the 2 seconds the fault is either the fuel pump or the  fuel pump relay.
