Cadillac Repair: spark plugs, universal joints, cadillac deville

Question
Hi, I need to change the spark plugs and wires on my 93 cadillac deville.  Is it hard to do? Do you have to remove any parts to get at the back plugs.

Answer
Hi Dan, If you have changed plugs before on other engines this shouldn't be too tough. On the Deville you shouldn't need to take anything off to get at the plugs or wires. But sometimes getting the boot to twist and pull off can be tough if they have been on for awhile. Putting some silicone or di-electric grease inside the book will keep the boot from sticking to the plug. What I use is a sparkplug socket that has a ball universal joint for use with impact tools. Put a long extension for the front plugs. Then for the rear I use 3 universal joints on the sparkplug socket, a 12" extension and then the ratchet. Some people just get in there with the socket and ratchet...I guess it just depends what tools you have to work with. One word of caution...if the plugs you remove or install are Delco plugs and the part number ends in a "K" like R44LTS6K then DO NOT SMOKE or put things in your mouth until you have washed your hands because there is a chemical that is on there that can make you really sick if injested. And remember to only do 1 plug at a time so you don't get the wires crossed. Hope that helps. Bill
