Cadillac Repair: Brake Problem, shoe material, hello bill

Question
Hello Bill,

My question is that my brakes are making a sqeeking sound when i brake lightly. When i brake a few times It kind of goes away.Should I change the drums or should I apply somethiing for now to stop the sqeeking?.

P.s can i apply something like w-d 40 or even like a grease cleaner on the brakes for now ?

thanks

your time and effort is greatly appriciated.

Alex

Answer
Hi Alex, DO NOT lube up the brake shoe material or you risk not being able to stop propperly. The first 2-3 times when you brake in the morning it is normal to hear some squeaking because a lite rust build-up gets on the drums and after several brake applications the rust gets worn off and the squeaking will be gone. Changeing drums or shoes will be a temporary fix because the condensation will still be there and soon the noise will be back. Bill
