Chevrolet Repair: 98 Chevy Cavalier Z24 Clockspring, chevy cavalier z24, chevy cavalier

Question
I just purchased this 98 Chevy Cavalier Z24 with a 2.4L vehicle for my daughter.  The airbag light is on, as is the ETS light, and the horn does not work.  I suspect the clockspring needs to be replaced.  In looking at the replacement, it appears that it plugs in at the base of the steering column vs. being able to unplug at the clockspring.  Can you clarify if this is the case, or do I need to find where it plugs into at the base of the steering column?  I have been unable to locate anything on the web dealing with this particular model.  I am purchasing a Haynes Manual, but if it is anything like the other two manuals I own, it steers clear of anything to do with the airbag.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
HI LARRY,IT IS POSS THAT THE CLOCK SPRING IS BAD,NOT VERY COMMON.  DID YOU CK FOR POWER AND GROUND AT THE HORN ITSELF ?? DID WE CK THE FUSE FOR THE HORN CIRCUIT. IF YES TO ABOVE  ONCE YOU REMOVE THE STEERING WHEEL YOU WILL SEE A CLIP THAT HOLDS THE CLOCK SPRING TO THE BASE THERE WILL BE A YELLOW PLUG TO REMOVE THE HARNESS FOR THE CLOCK SPRING.JUST PULL IT STRAIGHT UP AND OUT,CLOCK SPRING AND HARNESS..IF YOU CAN GO TO THE CHEVY STORE AND LOOK AT ONE THAT THEY HAVE IN STOCK,THIS WAY YOU WILL GET A REAL GOOD IDEA WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. TRY THE JUNK YARDS TO, MIGHT BE CHEAPER THIS WAY.SOME SALVAGE YARDS WILL LET YOU DO THIS. BUT  BEFORE YOU DO THIS JUST SUPPLY POWER AND GROUND TO THE HORN TO BE SURE.I HAVE SEEN MANY BAD HORNS..LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED MORE INFO ON THIS. PLEASE WHEN YOU LEAVE THIS SITE WOULD YOU RATE THIS ANSWER,,THANKS TOM.
